An OZEV Grant, also referred to as an EV chargepoint grant or an electric vehicle chargepoint grant, can help towards the cost of installing an electric vehicle chargepoint, or a home EV charger, in your property or business. It provides those eligible with up to £350 or 75% off the cost of buying and installing a home EV charger.
If you’re thinking of installing a home EV charger for your electric vehicle, you may well have heard about an OZEV grant and want to find out more information about OZEV grant eligibility to determine if you are eligible for one. In the article, we’re going to explain everything you need to know about OZEV grant eligibility and how to apply for one. Read on to find out if you’re eligible and how Next Gen Charge can help you secure your grant.
What is an OZEV grant?
The OZEV EV Chargepoint Grant is a government grant for electric vehicle home chargers, provided by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV). This grant is called the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS), although it is commonly known as the OZEV Grant. It provides those eligible with up to £350 off the cost of purchasing and installing their own home EV charger. Only one chargepoint can be claimed per eligible vehicle and household.
OZEV offers grants for both individuals installing home EV chargers and businesses that want to reduce the cost of installing EV infrastructure for their staff. More on the OZEV grant eligibility criteria and how to apply below.
OZEV grant eligibility: How do I qualify for the OZEV grant?
The OZEV grant for home EV chargers is available for:
- Homeowners who live in flats.
- People who live in rental accommodation (both flats and single-use properties).
For you to be eligible for the OZEV grant, you must:
- Live in a rented property or own a flat.
- Have dedicated off-street parking.
- Own, lease or have use of an eligible electric vehicle.
- Not previously claimed the grant for the EV.
You cannot apply for an OZEV grant under certain circumstances, such as:
- You live in a house you own, unless it's converted into flats, and you live in just one of the flats
- You’ve already claimed the grant, or its predecessors
- You want to replace a chargepoint, even if the existing one is incompatible with your electric vehicle
- You want to move your existing chargepoint to a new property
- You’re a lodger in a home where the landlord or homeowner lives
Your property must be in the UK, and your vehicle must be on the list of OZEV-approved electric vehicles. You also cannot claim for 2 chargepoints if you own a second EV anymore. It is also important to note that if you live in a rented property, you must obtain permission from your landlord before installation. You can find out more details about the full OZEV grant eligibility criteria on the government website.

How do I claim the OZEV grant?
To claim the grant, this must be applied for before the installation of your home EV charger. You cannot retrospectively apply if you have already paid to have an EV charger installed.
If you meet all the OZEV grant eligibility criteria listed earlier in this article, you could be eligible to apply for the OZEV grant and get money off your home EV charging installation. Next Gen Charge will take care of the application for you. The process is so simple, the steps include:

Once we have your details, we’ll get in touch to talk you through everything, so you can ask any questions you may have.
When will the OZEV grant end?
There is currently no set date for when the OZEV grant scheme will end. However, we do suggest applying sooner rather than later if you’re thinking of installing a home EV charger. This will ensure you get the grant, if eligible, and can enjoy money off your installation while it is available.
There was a previous OZEV grant scheme for homeowners that has now ended. The previous grant was similar to the current one, but homeowners were eligible to get £350 off the cost of the chargepoint installation. Unfortunately, this is no longer available. If you are a homeowner looking to install a home EV charger, you can still purchase one without the grant. - Businesses
